Our WIC CAN HELP campaign is designed to help the one million California families we serve to survive and protect their children’s health in these tough times. The campaign builds local agency staff capacity to inform and connect WIC families with all possible community assistance programs, from dental care to foreclosure counseling to utility assistance.

WIC CAN HELP identifies lesser-known referral resources, and makes sure the local WIC network can easily share the information with WIC participants using downloadable multi-language flyers or information. Each month, we share a new resource and referral “survival kit” which highlights assistance or program linkages that local WIC staff might suggest to young families in need. WIC CAN HELP is funded by grants from The California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente Community Benefits.

Strengthening Local WIC Linkages to Safety Net Programswichelp

With funding from The California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit, CWA offers WIC CAN HELP, a campaign to strengthen local WIC capacity to inform and connect WIC families with community assistance programs. To protect and strengthen the ability of over one million California families to survive and protect their children’s health in tough times, WIC CAN HELP features a monthly resource and referral “toolkit” suitable for all local WIC programs and highlighting community resources available to most WIC families.

2013 RESOURCE AND REFERRAL CALENDAR

Public Charge: To reassure noncitizens of their ability to receive many benefits, refer to Public Charge Fact Sheets in English and Spanish.

You can refer participants year-round to the e-benefits California website, an online resource for Medi-Cal, CMSP, CalFresh, and CalWORKS. It's an easy way to see if someone is potentially eligible, learn how to apply, and get key information about these benefits.

WHAT LOCAL AGENCIES CAN DO:

  1. Assign an I&R Coordinator to review and update local agency’s resource and referral information.
  2. Review the resources of the month and share relevant downloads with WIC families.
  3. Customize the county-specific flyers with more local information, if you wish.
  4. Please share new information and referral with CWA, so we can update and improve the information we post every month.
