We are thrilled to have Dr. Zea Malawa as our guest speaker for the first WIC Works Webinar of the summer. Please join us to listen and discuss how a Pregnancy Basic Income pilot has supported WIC families in San Francisco through the efforts of San Francisco WIC and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

San Francisco, like most of California, has wide disparities in premature births rates. Research has shown that racism is a significant cause of these differences in birth outcomes. Racism is a pervasive problem, and it can be difficult to know how government programs can make a difference.

Dr. Malawa will share details of San Francisco’s pregnancy Basic Income Program, The Abundant Birth Project, and discuss how this type of intervention holds promise for narrowing racial disparities in birth outcomes.
