Dr. Shannon Whaley from PHFE WIC had the honor of being Congressman Ted Lieu’s special guest at the President’s Joint Address of Congress on March 4, 2025. In January, Dr. Whaley, the Director of Research and Evaluation with the PHFE WIC program, participated in an important and timely roundtable discussion of local leaders and community advocates hosted by Congressman Ted Lieu to discuss the dire consequences of pausing federal loans, grants, and financial assistance programs. Following this discuss, Congressman Lieu extended a special invitation to Dr. Whaley to attend the Presidential Address to Congress as his guest in recognition of her dedication to WIC and vulnerable families in her community. Dr. Whaley’s participation in these high-profile discussions underscores the continuing efforts to protect and strengthen WIC, ensuring it remains a vital source for families in need.
