The California WIC Association is proud to cosponsor AB 2160 (Rodriguez) alongside the California Breastfeeding Coalition and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists District IX. The legislation is focused on strengthening lactation support for breastfeeding families across California and improving maternal and infant health outcomes.
AB 2160 will:
- Clarify standard billing and reimbursement procedures for lactation services, including appropriate billing codes.
- Clearly define Medi-Cal managed care plans’ responsibility to cover and reimburse lactation services and supports.
- Ensure that Medi-Cal members who reasonably self-identify a need for lactation consultation can access services without prior authorization, a prescription, or referral.
- Improve statewide consistency and transparency regarding access to lactation services and supports.
- Require the Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans to report to Department of Healthcare Services the number of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants they have in-network.
